International Guests

Welcoming the Global Power & Energy Community

2026 IEEE PES T&D is proud to welcome professionals from more than 60 countries around the world! Whether you’re traveling across the border or across the ocean, we’re here to support your journey to Chicago and help ensure a smooth travel experience each step of the way.

With increased visa processing times and evolving global travel policies, we encourage our international guests to start planning early and initiate your visa process well in advance.

Apply Early: Visa and ESTA processing can take several weeks or more. Start the process at least 3 months before your departure to avoid delays.

Travel & Visa Resources

Most international attendees will need a B-1 Business Visa to enter the U.S. for IEEE PES T&D. Please consult the U.S. Department of State’s website for the most current guidance.

International Visas
If you have any questions about visa requirements and whether or not you'll need one for your upcoming trip, please visit the business visitors page on the United States State Department website.
International Waivers
Those seeking to visit the US under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) are now subject to enhanced security requirements. All eligible travelers must apply for ESTA and pay the required fee.
Letter of Invitation
While registering to attend IEEE PES T&D, you will have the option to request a Letter of Invitation. Registration will open in November 2025. Review registration information at the link below.

Visa Wizard is a tool designed to help you understand which visa category may be appropriate for your travel to the U.S.

There are multiple steps to apply for a Visa, and the order of these steps and how they’re completed vary by U.S Embassy or Consulate. Locate Your Embassy

Consular Officers in charge of Visa interviews look specifically for proof that you will return to your country. Showing ‘strong ties’ such as proof of business ownership, employment, social and/or familial relationships will help your application.

Provide material evidence that you returned within your stated timeframe during previous international travel, such as an airline boarding pass.
While not required, presenting your letter of invitation to DEMA Show can assist as a supporting document during your Visa interview.
