This gas-insulated substation (GIS) plays a critical role in enabling high-capacity, high-reliability power delivery to meet the growing demands of digital infrastructure.
Key Tour Highlights:
- IEC 61850 Integration—This is ComEd’s first substation utilizing Sampled Values under the IEC 61850 protocol, marking a significant step forward in digital substation technology and interoperability.
- Largest SDN Deployment—The Elk Grove station features ComEd’s largest deployment of Software Defined Networking (SDN), enhancing network flexibility, security, and real-time control.
- North Region’s Largest Station (Post-Construction)—Upon completion of the many expansion projects, Elk Grove will become the largest substation in ComEd’s North region, reinforcing its strategic importance in regional grid modernization and capacity planning.
