Elk Grove Village and the surrounding areas are experiencing an unprecedented surge in data center development. This gas-insulated substation (GIS) plays a critical role in enabling high-capacity\, high-reliability power delivery to meet the growing demands of digital infrastructure. \nKey Tour Highlights: \n\nIEC 61850 Integration—This is ComEd’s first substation utilizing Sampled Values under the IEC 61850 protocol\, marking a significant step forward in digital substation technology and interoperability.\nLargest SDN Deployment—The Elk Grove station features ComEd’s largest deployment of Software Defined Networking (SDN)\, enhancing network flexibility\, security\, and real-time control.\nNorth Region’s Largest Station (Post-Construction)—Upon completion of the many expansion projects\, Elk Grove will become the largest substation in ComEd’s North region\, reinforcing its strategic importance in regional grid modernization and capacity planning.\n\nTour Maximum Capacity: 75 \nCost: $35 \nRequirements/Restrictions: \n\nClosed-toe shoes; no heels.\nFire-retardant clothing\, hard hats\, and safety glasses will be provided for visitors who do not have them.\nThere are 4 flights of stairs involved throughout the tour.\n\nSecurity Check: Yes \nPick-Up/Drop-Off Location: McCormick Place \nEvent registration is required to sign up for a technical tour.  Secure your spot when you register for 2026 IEEE PES T&D.
